Reconciliation Day
April 2nd is Reconciliation Day, a tradition started by famous columnist Ann Landers. I still remember reading her column in the paper for all kinds of advice. The point of Reconciliation Day is to reach out to others and make some small step towards mending broken relationships with a family member, friend or business associate.
I love this idea and chose my 1st action to write and send a note to an elderly member of my community who is kind but lonely and sometimes places great demands on my time. Boundaries are important but I wanted to let her know I care.
From a business perspective I think for today it is even more important to reconcile with yourself so you can move forward in your business.
We are starting the 3rd quarter and it is a good time to reflect on where you are in your business and take a look at your goals. If you aren’t where you want to be, don’t beat yourself up over your lack of progress. You’ve hit some milestones, so celebrate that. Keep your head up and keep plowing ahead and adjust your plans as necessary.
Setbacks and mistakes happen. It’s OK. The road to success isn’t a straight line. It has many twists and turns. These are the things we learn from and they even make the journey interesting and exciting.
Forgive yourself, love yourself, and adjust your plans accordingly. As the saying goes, “No pain, no gain.” Just as other people deserve 2nd chances, so do you. Don’t get hung up on the challenges. Embrace them and keep moving forward. Take responsibility for where you are. Don’t blame your circumstances, reconcile with yourself, and claim your power.
In honor of today, reach out to others and yourself. Boldly claim a fresh new start.
Happy Reconciliation Day!
