Padlock Still Showing on Your Site?

Padlock Still Showing on Your Site?

Padlock showing

I was so frustrated!!! I googled how to get https on my WordPress site as I wanted to make all my content secure for visitors. I installed the Really Simple SSL plugin and thought I was good to go when I activated it. My WordPress dashboard showed the https but when I viewed my site the padlock with the yellow warning sign was still showing. This warns visitors the site isn’t secure.

Padlock Solution

What the heck! I went to the site “Why No Padlock” to scan my site for problems. Great site! It quickly showed me I had an image in a widget that had been loaded in http instead of https and where to find it.

Turns out it was an image I was using to promote something from a vendor. I reached out to the vendor but unfortunately they use Infusion Soft and couldn’t fix the image for me. They suggested I copy the image and upload and host it on my site as a workaround.

OK. I’m not too techy but I was on a mission. I wanted to get this done and I wanted to have the image open in a new page when someone clicked on it. That way my visitors could easily get back to my site.

I quickly found several posts that walked me through the steps. Basically you:

    1. Create a draft post
    2. Place the image in the post
    3. Link the image to the destination URL
    4. Switch to test mode
    5. Place the html code in a Text Widget
    6. Check your work.

Whoo-hoo!! Problem solved and I had the green padlock and my site is secure.

How to Disable Gutenberg and Keep Classic Editor

Here are some steps if you want to change back to the classic editor view when posting and correcting this problem.

    1. In your WordPress dashboard go to the Plugins section.
    2. Search under add new for Classic Editor
    3. Click to install it
    4. Click to activate
    5. Find the plugin and click settings
    6. If need be make changes here if you want the Classic Editor to be the default editor. Save.

This plugin works out of the box and actually disabled the Gutenberg editor upon activation for me. But you can go into the settings of the plugin so you can keep both. You can learn more about the Gutenberg editor on this site.

Some people love the Gutenberg Editor vs the Classic Editor and perhaps I will switch. Just need to set aside some time to play with it and see if I like it.

Hope this post has been helpful to you and the highlighted links for more detailed information. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions.
